This is it. The ultimate land speed record attempt to be made by the British built Bloodhound SSC will be done on South African soil by 2012. The car is expected to reach speeds in excess of 1000 mph. This is an improvement of over 30% from the previous land speed record of 763 mph which was set by Thrust SSC, which was the first land-based vehicle to break the sound barrier on land. Incidentally it is the same team that made the Thrust SSC are attempting the new land speed record on their newly designed Bloodhound SSC. I’m keeping my fingers crossed here.
